In the last general audience of his pontificate, Pope Benedict XVI thanked his collaborators in the Roman Curia, the faithful and people from different social and political spheres around the world for their closeness and affection in recent weeks. Addressing the tens of thousands who rallied around him Wednesday morning, he once again explained the reasons for his decision to resign. In recent months, he said, I had felt my strength decline, and I earnestly asked God in prayer to enlighten me and help me make the right decision not for my sake, but for the good of the Church. I have taken this step in full awareness of its gravity and also its novelty, but with a deep peace of mind.

Watergate Reporter Bob Woodward was on MSNBC today and tore into President Obama. Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward's ongoing war of word with President Barack Obama's White House escalated on Wednesday when Woodward took to the set of MSNBC's Morning Joe to slam the president's handling of the sequester fight. Woodward said that the president has displayed a "kind of madness" in his decision to make those cuts as painful and deleterious to the nation's war fighting capability as possible. Host Joe Scarborough began the interview by asking for a recap of the fight between Woodward and the administration regarding who proposed the sequester first. Woodward informed Scarborough that the White House has conceded that he was originally right and that the idea for sequester came from the Obama administration.

Fox News' Bill O'Reilly asked the question of how President Obama will be judged in the pages of history. He said that historians will pay no mind to Obama's charisma or his legislative victories, but instead will judge him on the economy he leaves behind. O'Reilly said that presidents like Herbert Hoover are most remembered for presiding over bad economies, and predicted that Obama will end up in that same historical category.
